DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. April and Tracie open the episode reflecting on the year that was. How did this last year treat you? What stands out for you as the new year approaches?

  2. Tracie reminds us that compassion is an action, including for ourselves. What doyoues it look like for you to have compassion for yourself?

  3. Tracie describes an idea from Everyday Holiness: that we each have our own “life curriculum”. What is on your life’s curriculum? What are your areas of growth? Where do you need support?

  4. April often says, “I wonder what wonderful things will come,” which is similar to a tradition that Tracie shares of saying “gam zu le-tovah/also this is for the good”. Have you used these or similar internal scripts when navigating challenging times?

INSIGHTS FROM THIS EPISODE

I hope for some of you, there’s a bit of a sense of pride and/or relief, in spite of how difficult things have been, that we made it. And that for the most part, we don’t have a ton to atone for and that we’ve managed to keep our integrity and our good spirits even through trying times.

And so my invitation to you, my friend, beloved listener, is obviously for us not to skip cheshbon ha’nefesh (or accounting of the soul), but to really notice this year that we can have a both/and of being gentle and courageous and loving with ourselves, all at the same time and keep a holistic view of everything.
