For progressive leadership teams and justice-oriented organizations

Liberatory Organizational

Consulting

You’ve made commitments. You’ve done trainings. And still, your values don’t reliably show up in decisions, systems, and day-to-day leadership. Our consulting helps you turn equity and shared power into lived culture, so your organization stays steady (and even strengthens) when conflict or pressure hits.

A few of the organizations that have given us their trust.

When values live in statements, but not in operations

  • You care about justice and belonging, but hiring, decision-making, and operations don’t consistently reflect it.

  • Culture work becomes reactive, especially when tension, identity conflict, or external pressure rises.

  • Leaders feel stretched thin, trying to “do it right” without a reliable shared practice for conflict, accountability, and repair.

  • The organization learns concepts… but still needs a grounded way to translate them into daily leadership and durable systems.

Strategy with soul.
Structure that sustains.

This is consulting for leaders who want a trusted, relational strategist fluent in both justice and organizational design. We blend strategy, coaching, and facilitation to move your organization from aspiration to consistent practice, without pushing past what your people can actually hold.

“Because of the work we did together with April over years, our organization was strong enough to withstand a moment that could have completely flattened us… people stayed. That stability didn’t happen by accident.”

— Abby Levine, Executive Director, JSJR

“The content was excellent — but what made the real difference was the hands-on coaching… time to think with April helped us navigate situations we truly could not have handled on our own.”

— Morriah Kaplan, Executive Director, IfNotNow

“The structure of the program came at exactly the right time… we knew we wanted to build a multiracial organization — but… it would fail if we didn’t get the internal foundation right first.”

— Davida Ginsberg, Nonprofit Executive & Activist

The Partnership Pathway

Explore our range of services designed to help you move forward with confidence, wherever you're headed next.

For organizations ready to move from “trying” to consistent practice, with leadership buy-in and willingness to build real infrastructure.

Depending on the nature of the consulting services you request, custom consulting packages are often between $10K–$60K. Various consulting packages cost less, and others more, depending on scope/scale. To get a general sense of our equity-aligned, tiered rate structure that we can work with to meet your needs, you can visit our Client Rates page.

We generally work with no more than 4 consulting partnerships each quarter.

Guarantee (mutual respect, clean agreements): At the end of the discovery phase, if you don’t feel aligned with and sufficiently confident about our planned or newly articulated scope of work, you can choose to discontinue our work together with no additional financial obligation beyond the discovery phase.

Core ways we work (examples):

  • Leadership alignment + operating agreements (values → decision pathways)

  • Original program and session development

  • Conflict navigation + repair practices (compassion and accountability)

  • Preparation & guidance for high-stakes meetings / moments of rupture

  • Tools you can actually use (dashboards, templates, principles, hiring strategies)

This isn’t more “DEI work.” It’s capacity.

  1. Steadiness under pressure: so leadership doesn’t collapse into urgency or avoidance.

  2. Clarity you can operationalize: shared language, shared tools, shared practice.

  3. Culture that holds: belonging and accountability that become real and adaptable, not performative.

Consulting Package Bonuses:

  • Executive Alignment Brief: 2–3 pages of insights, clear priorities, recommended next steps and talking points for leaders/boards to facilitate greater clarity and alignment toward the outset.

  • Conflict & Repair Toolkit: a ready-to-use protocol + prompts to navigate tension and repair without spiraling or shutting down.

  • Decision Pathways Pack: Customizable templates that bring structure to decision-making, from authority clarity to values alignment to communication protocols.

Features

  • Paid Discovery Phase: a clean starting point that prevents mis-scoped projects.

  • Hands-On Coaching for Leaders: real-time support when the stakes are real.

  • Facilitation + Design: frameworks and resources your org can hold onto.

  • Whole-System Lens: individual, interpersonal, and institutional transformation together.

On-Ramp Step 2: Proposal + Scope (Custom) - If it feels aligned, I’ll draft a proposal outlining: Goals, intended outcomes, scope, deliverables, timeline and cadence, details and scope of discovery phase, and investment and payment schedule

Step 3: Agreement + Start Date - Once the proposal is approved (possibly after one additional complementary session to refine and confirm proposal and agreement), we sign an agreement and officially begin!

The Core Engagement
$0.00

This is the 6-12 month consulting partnership—where your values move from intention to reliable practice in leadership, systems, and culture.

Timeframe: 6-12 months
Investment:$10K–$60K+ depending on scope/scale
Capacity: Quarterly intake; limited partnerships for depth and steadiness

What we build together (examples):

  • Leadership alignment + operating agreements (how decisions actually get made)

  • Clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability practices

  • Conflict skill-building + repair frameworks (compassion and accountability)

  • Systems upgrades (hiring, onboarding, performance, feedback loops)

  • Practical tools your org can keep using (templates, dashboards, principles)

Outcome: A stronger “trunk”—shared structure, shared language, shared skill—so the culture holds under pressure.

Root Mapping: Discovery (If Needed)
$0.00

Sometimes it’s not wise to jump straight to a proposal. There are too many moving parts, too many stakeholders, or too much strain in the system.

In those cases, we start with Paid Discovery: a short, structured phase to listen, map patterns, and scope the work before we commit to a larger engagement.

Timeline: ~30 days
Investment: $3K–$6K (creditable toward the engagement if we proceed)

Discovery may include: Stakeholder conversations; Review of key systems/docs (decisions, hiring, comms, norms); Pattern mapping (where equity breaks down—and why); or Sequencing recommendations (what first, what later, what not yet)

Outcome: A right-sized roadmap and scope your organization can actually hold.

Stewarding Ongoing Evolution
$0.00

Because the work evolves, some teams choose continued support after the initial engagement, so growth is tended over time and progress keeps branching out instead of resetting or stalling.

Timeframe: 1+ years
Investment: $10K–$60K+ depending on scope/scale

What this can look like (depending on the season you’re in):

  • Consulting and Coaching to support the work as it evolves

  • Support for aligned staff recruitment so the culture & values deepen in alignment

  • On-call support for high-pressure moments when steadiness matters most

  • Periodic trainings to keep conflict, repair, and accountability skills alive

Outcome: A deeper bench of aligned leaders, systems that better reflect your values, and steady advancement toward the larger vision, year after year.

GUARANTEE

At the end of the discovery phase, if you don’t feel aligned with and sufficiently confident about our planned or newly articulated scope of work, you can choose to discontinue our work together with no additional financial obligation beyond the discovery phase.
